Really Al Jourgensen? Really?

It was recently brought to my attention that Al Jourgensen has repeatedly said that he is ashamed of Ministry's first album With Sympathy. He said that the label, Arista, forced the band to have a synthpop sound.

I find that funny because that is the one and only Ministry album I like. As soon as they went the way of Industrial I was over it.

Example of a happier time for Ministry:

SIGH.

Coconut Bliss is right!

A Summer food staple of my childhood was ice cream. I remember going to Dairy Queen and getting a coffee shake, coffee cone, coffee sundae...you get the point. I loved coffee ice cream. Ever since going vegan I have been on the lookout for a coffee "ice cream" that could satisfy my cravings. Most companies seem to make mocha fudge and can't just leave the wonderful coffee/espresso/mocha flavor by itself. All hope was lost until I discovered Coconut Bliss in Cappuccino.

SO GOOD. The best vegan coffee ice cream I have tried. Sadly, I haven't tried any other flavors because I can't stop buying Cappuccino. Did I mention that this "ice cream" is not only dairy free, but soy and gluten free? I didn't? Well it is! Do yourself a favor and run to Whole Foods to buy some right now!

Sometimes all it takes is a pretty face and I'm sold

While I may not be the biggest fan of his music (ok, so I'm not a fan at all really), I have to admit to myself (and now the world) that I find Adam Ant strangely sexy. Sure, he often dresses like a pirate, but I can look past that.

Please watch the video below for proof of sexiness.

I don't have a dog, but I like going to dog parks

Recently I went to Point Isabel in Richmond, CA with some friends. It turned out to be a dog park on the water. The ocean + cute dogs = happy Jenna. Simple equation, but true.

Thanks go out to: Melisser, Meg, Ryan and Strummer

J.J. Abrams strikes again

I'm pretty sure J.J. Abrams exists to make things that I enjoy. It's awesome.

The new Star Trek movie opens this Friday. Meg and I are going to go and totally geek out.

So epic:

Now I know why I was drooling

This past Thursday I went to see Watchmen. When the movie was over I thought to myself "Ozymandias looks REALLY familiar" but I just couldn't place where I knew the actor from.

When I got home I went to IMDB and BAM! It was Matthew Goode! I didn't recognize him with blonde hair (he normally has dark brown hair). Damn. He's hot.

I just choked on my soy milk smoothie

Do you remember the movie Real Genius? Do you remember how hot Val Kilmer was in that movie?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I challenge your internet skills

The first person to find me a picture of Andrew Eldritch WITHOUT sunglasses on wins a prize. I'm serious. I'm dying to see if he actually has eyes. I'm starting to think he doesn't.

Good luck!

Drag Me To Hell

Two reasons I want to see this movie. 1. The title is awesome. 2. Justin Long. If those aren't good enough reasons to see a movie, I don't want to know what are.

Ok, ok. It's a horror movie and I would watch it anyway. WHATEVER. It looks interesting and different from anything I've seen latelty, so yay.

Go watch the trailer: http://www.dragmetohell.net/

I just can't let go of BSG

I know Battlestar Galactica ended last Friday. I KNOW. I curled up in bed, clutched my pillow tight and wept...until I heard about the new Battlestar Galactica movie coming out. That's right!!! Battlestar Galactica: The Plan. Oh, fuck yeah! Scheduled to air on tv sometime during November of this year.

The movie begins just after the destruction of the twelve colonies, with two Cylon agents discussing the problem of the remaining humans, both on the planets, and those who have escaped into space. The movie shows the initial storyline of the reimagined Battlestar Galactica from the Cylon point of view. Edward James Olmos states: "When [‘Battlestar’ fans] see ‘The Plan,’ they’re all going to have to go back and watch the entire series again."

Oh my Gods I am frakking excited.

Taken

It's not often that I'm on the edge of my seating and totally engrossed in a movie...but that definitely was the case with Taken. Liam Neeson's character was very likeable. The type of character you pull for throughout the entire movie. This is more of a thriller than an action movie (don't get me wrong, there are plenty of fights) and I think that's why I was into it.

If you like LOST (and who doesn't?) Maggie Grace (Shannon) is in this movie. Upside is she is not nearly as annoying as she was on LOST and the downside is she looks really bad with brown hair.

J.J. Abrams Appreciation

J.J. Abrams is right up there with Ryan Murphy for creating two television shows that are awesome.

LOST. Oh, man. What an awesome show. This is the type of show for people who like to become obsessed with a series and anazlyze everything. I LOVE IT. There are so many twists, so much interconnectedness and still so many questions left unaswered that I am dying to know the answers to.

Fringe. If you haven't seen this new show yet, you need to. If you liked The X-Files or if you like J.J. Abrams' style, then you will easily become obsessed with this show. It has many of the same qualities of LOST: people being connected in strange ways, people are not always what they seem, Easter eggs and foreshadowing, cliff hangers, etc. It took me a few episodes to get hooked, but now I am REALLY into it.

I think I am going to have to follow this up soon with a Ryan Murphy appreciation post. I can't think of anyone else to create more than one tv show I like. Anyone else?

If anything goes wrong, Desmond Hume will be my constant

I am FINALLY caught up on LOST. I powered through it, but it still felt like I would never be up-to-date. As much as I felt it was an annoyance to have to watch multiple episodes a night in hopes of being able to watch season 5 real time, now that the burden is gone I'm actually kind of bummed. I need a new show to watch (I'm caught up on all my programs!).

I am woman enough to admit that I cried at the end of season 4 when Desmond and Penny were reunited. I was pulling for them for so long...it was kind of cathartic.

Needless to say, I am REALLY excited to watch a new episode of LOST this week.

Random side note: Whenever Daniel Faraday is on the screen all I can think about is his portrayal of Charles Manson. Anyone else?

EDIT: OH WTF. Apparently it's a re-run tonight. WHYYYYY!?

Totally, totally tragic

Just writing this post is making me sad. I couldn't talk about dudes in bands that were hot in the 80's without mentioning this next person. The only problem is...he is not hot now. At all. He really let himself go. It's a tragedy. I'm talking about Robert Smith (The Cure).

(on the left)

(on the right)

Will you look at that???!!! WTF happened??!! Ugh. Totally depressing. He was SO CUTE. See, this scares me because this could happen to ANYONE. All those dudes you think are hot now could suffer the same fate as Mr. Smith. Just try and block out what he looks like now and live in the past (that's what I do). Watch Just Like Heaven over and over and everything will be alright.

Most amazingly amazing cheekbones ever

Next up in the series of dudes in bands that were hot in the 80's and are still hot now is Peter Murphy (Bauhaus).

Peter Murphy is second from the left in both pictures. Look at those cheekbones!! Undeniable. You can't fuck with those. There is something about his predominantly black wardrobe and unmistakable voice that gets me going. I'm serious. Watch the music video for She's In Parties right now and try not to get turned on. I DARE YOU. Be sure to check out his solo stuff, it's just as sexy.

Hotness that spans time

I think I am going to be doing a series on dudes from bands in the 80's that are still hot today. I will probably follow it up with dudes from bands in the 80's that are NOT still hot today. There are some pretty tragic cases out there.

I'm going to start with my one true love, Dave Gahan (Depeche Mode).

He is on the right in both pictures. Holy damn he is one of the sexiest men EVAR. Do yourself a favor and go watch their music video for Halo and the one for Personal Jesus. You will not be disappointed with the sexiness that is Dave Gahan in those two videos. I think the fact that he can sing AND dance add to his timeless appeal.

On a really exciting note...tickets go on sale next week for Depeche Mode's 2009 tour!!! Ahhhhhhhh!!! I have a bad feeling about the amount of money I am going to spend for the chance to be close enough to Dave Gahan to taste his sweat. Yup. I'm sick.

It was hot as Hades at Cat Club this weekend

Saturday night Melisser and I went to Cat Club for Temptation. Without fail the dj played the strangest 80's music video in existance: Fade to Grey by Visage. Just watch the video below to see what I'm talking about.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UT8ZOB0MIV4

Elaborate makeup aside, there were other note-worthy things that night. There was a guy that looked like he could have been in Bauhaus. His 80's goth look was in full effect and I loved it.

Unfortunately he looked to be in his late 40s. Where are all the 20-something 80's goth rock looking guys at? Hit me up! I'm not talking Hot Topic, I'm talking Ian Curtis look-a-like.

There was also a goth girl there doing some classic goth dance moves such as "kicking the smurf" and "moving through the cobwebs". Priceless.

In an effort to steer this post away from 100% goth talk, I ran into Mel and Shane that night. It was great seeing them again.

Melisser is leaving for Europe Thursday and will be leaving me dance partner-less for weeks! SIGH.

I think the best way to end this post is with a picture of Steve Strange of Visage:
